Samarkand: rarities of the Silk Road" in Madrid

A night of Uzbek culture organized by Fund Forum, the embassy of Uzbekistan in Spain Kingdom and in the collaboration of Spanish company "Repsol"; a named "Samarkand: rarities of the Silk Road" has been celebrated in Madrid.
The event was opened by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Republic of Uzbekistan in the Spain Kingdom, Professor Gulnara Karimova: "Samarkand certainly has become place where the links between our nationalities has been put into the foundation. More than 600 years ago, in 1404, Spanish ambassador Roué Gonzales de Clavijo had arrived to Samarkand with the official visit to establish diplomatic relationships among the lands of Enrique the IIIrd and Tamerlan. In its turn this has served for the further development of cultural and economical relationships"
More than 200 representatives of political, social, cultural and business organizations of Spain have attended to the event. Among them you could notice leaders of such great companies as "Repsol", "Talgo", "Abengoa", "Indra", "Iberdrola", "Duro Felguera", "Iberiolica", "Chemieuro" and etc.
The variety of traditions and the historical heritage of Uzbekistan have been demonstrated by three expositions of different orientations simultaneously.
The exhibition of rarity textile - collections of suzane, skull-caps, the gown of Bukhara's emir (XIX century), which was for the first time exhibited in Western Europe, and the head-dress - chalma from the collection of the Art Museum of Bukhara, female hair-dress from the Karakalpakistan State Museum of Arts and also modern exhibits - traditional Uzbek textile, designed by the GULI art studio based on ancient textiling technologies.
The photo-exposition of "Old Samarkand" has provided virtue photo shoots of the end of XIX and the early XX centuries (from the collection of Fund forum "125 years of Uzbek photography") that reflect the urbanism, lifestyle of citizens of Samarkand back then, and the architectural sights of the city as well.
Another photo exhibition was devoted to the p[presentation of the book "Masterpieces of architectural-memorial epigraphy of Samarkand" and has presented the exposition in a special conceptual format. A fragment with epigraphic signature and then its decoded translation into Spanish and English were on each of the photos.
