The first mention of this state museum belongs to 1896. Care from the part of the state, philanthropists and ordinary citizens helped the museum over the years of its existence substantially supplement its collection. Many elements found in museum collections, are of great historical and cultural value.


Modern History Museum is divided into five thematic halls, representing different aspects of life in the country:

  1. History Department;
  2. The Department of Fine Arts;
  3. Archaeological Department;
  4. Exhibition and funds departments;
  5. Archaeological, numismatic, pictorial and marketing department.


The exposition is constantly updated


Today, in this museum you can find numerous artifacts that allow drawing conclusions about the life of our ancestors:

  1. Jewelryof the Bronze Age;
  2. Extensive collection of various ancient coins;
  3. Zoroastrian ossuaries;
  4. An extensive collection of ancient ceramics, glass and metal products;
  5. Religious bowls made of silver;
  6. Several tens of thousands of samples of national costumes;
  7. A lot of old carpets;
  8. Engraved knives;
  9. Religious items of the 8th century;
  10. More than one thousand paintings, belonging to well-known Uzbek artists of different eras.


Since its foundation, the historical museum was functioning to the public on the Registan Square, but in 2010 the authorities decided to move it to Ulugbek Street. The building was for almost four years was closed for repairs, but in September 2014 residents and guests of the country could again cross its threshold.
